Saffron Crocus sativus

Saffron Crocus sativus is a bulbous plant between 6 and 10 cm high, with long leaves, in the form of strips, up to 3 cm long, provided with subtle hairs on its margins and a thin white longitudinal line along of all its surface. The flowers, very beautiful, have violet-colored petals. The stigmas, which are its culinary and medicinal part, are bright red or yellow.

This spice has its origin in the eastern Mediterranean, the Greek Peloponnese and Turkey, although some sources place it in the Middle East and Mesopotamia https://foodsocietyx.com. It was introduced in Spain by the Arabs and from here it was known in the rest of Western Europe.
